Northern Ballet's The Nutcracker - Saturday 2nd January 2016

I took my niece to her third ballet, The Nutcracker, at the beginning of January.  Here are her thoughts:

"The ballet was amazing.  The outfits were very well made and thought out.  The dancing was full of feeling.  The background stuff (staging and props) was (were) breathtaking.  My favourite dancer was the Sugar Plum Fairy (danced by Abigail Prudamas)"

I share exactly what my niece thinks about The Nutcracker.  David Nixon's production comes to Leeds for the Grand theatre's Christmas show.  Set to Tchaikovsky's popular musical score and adapted to Hoffman's The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, the ballet pleases many to the eye and drives the imagination of many.

When Clara (danced by Antoinette Brooks-Daw) goes on a magical adventure with her Nutcracker Prince (danced by Kevin Poeung). They travel to a stunning Winter Wonderland starring the eye-catching dancing snowflakes and other unique characters.

The star character must be the Sugar Plum Fairy (Prudamas).  Prudamas' dancing is the definitive moment of this performance.  Containing endless turns and pirouettes the beautiful intricate dancing captures the imagination and magic of The Nutcracker.  The chemistry in the Pas de Deux between the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier (danced by Joseph Taylor).

A beautiful production with great dancing and eye catching staging by Charles Cusick Smith and Mark Jonathan.  We are now looking forward to Northern Ballet's next production, Swan Lake, in March.
